Consistent action steps are key to building the business you want

From 2005 to 2010, I transitioned from selling on eBay to blogging, to selling on Etsy. I realized that underneath everything, the reason for all of these different businesses was because I loved the experience of bringing a business to life and creating the design, brand, and aesthetic. It’s why I kept jumping from thing to thing because I would launch something, get bored, create something new, and then get bored again.

In 2010, I decided to close up shop on everything and lean into being a designer. I got into web design and brand strategy and started charging more for my services. And so that was from 2013 through 2020.

Know when it's time to pivot

It was 2018 when I was on the brink of burnout and I had a client, who I already worked with, who came back and had a list of things she needed my help with. I didn’t have time to go through her list and write a proposal to itemize everything. I responded to her to pay me for a day and I’ll just do your whole list in a day. She said yes and that was the beginning of this new pivot.

From that day forward, every time a new lead would come in, I pitched them a day rate or an intensive and I hit six figures so easily doing that. I felt so much less stressed, but I was still doing what I loved.

About a year and a half later, other designers were asking me, how I was doing this? So, I did a 30 minutes Zoom recording with a handful of designers and showed them how I did it. When I realized that more people needed to know about this, I created my course to teach the model.

The continued success and growth of this course lead me to the point where I had to make a decision. Either go all in on coaching and teaching or continue designing because I couldn’t do both.

You don't need to have everything figured out to start

Everyone overthinks and believes that they need to have it all figured out before starting. I didn’t. I had no idea what I was doing. Whatever is on your mind that you want to do, just do it by taking one action step every single day. That is going to get you where you need to go.
